Our Tintype Studio is an amazing experience - you will be surrounded by an arsenal of lighting to allow us to make a bright-enough exposure to create the image in artificial light. It's a fun and interesting process, and once you have posed for your image you can come in to the darkroom and watch the plate being processed. If you like, you can also watch the varnishing and digitising process, and take the image home with you on the day - or leave it with us to prepare and frame and send to you a week later.

Because the light needs to be quite close to you, we are not able to create a full length portrait or wide shot in the studio*

* Shoot time - approximately 1 hour

* Family portraits available on request (people may need to be grouped in separate plates and then framed in a group)

* Special techniques (somewhat experimental and quirky) can be used to overcome the limitation of close-up portraits, so please do get in touch to discuss your idea

** The technique is extremely sensitive and at times the chemistry decides to not work effectively. We do our best to manage it and 90% of the time it's great. If we have an issue on the day we may need some extra time to re-mix chemistry and problem-solve. But we always do a test plate before you arrive to make sure everything is working well and we work really hard to minimise any challenges :)
