Adelaide Steampunk Festival

Ladies, Gentlemen, retrofuturists and time travellers alike are invited to step back in time to a world of steam powered wonders and clockwork enchantments at the 2019 Adelaide Steampunk Festival.

In simple terms, steampunk is a genre of science fiction that has a historical setting which typically features steam powered machinery rather than advanced technology, but in reality it has grown to be much more than this.

Steampunk as a genre is most commonly set in an alternate and sometimes dystopian version of the 19th century British Victorian era or American ‘wild west’ where steam powered devices have been retained in normal usage.

Retro Futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them feature heavily in this genre, as do the era’s perspectives on fashion, art, architecture and culture.

The focus of the Adelaide Steampunk Festival is on the family friendly fun, whimsical and creative aspects of steampunk including live music, improv theatre, costumes and a market street of food vendors, artists and merchants peddling their wares.
