We are thrilled to be a part of the Adelaide Camera Expo at the Adelaide central Markets this year. This is event is an absolute must-visit if you are a keen photographer or are interested in photographic equipment. 9am – 12pm Darkroom Access (cost available on request)

The darkroom will be available for members of the SA Collodion Collective to use for their own work. To enquire about having access to the darkroom and developing chemistry, or about joining the collective, please get in touch with us. Come along to see what local wet-platers are shooting, and meet some of the local practitioners.

11am – 12pm A presentation and outline of the Tintype history and process (FREE)

The team will present an outline of the Tintype process in the upstairs boardroom at the Adelaide Central Markets. Come along to learn about the history of the process, the equipment and chemicals required, and to watch the process in action. This will either be live-streamed from the darkroom, or if we can’t get the technology working we will show it in a video. Look at a range of different Tintypes at various sizes, and various style, and we can try to answer any questions as best we can.

12-3pm Tintype Experiences (costs & bookings below)

· Come into the darkroom and watch the preparation and processing of a wet plate collodion image from start to finish;

· Have a go at practising how to flow a plate (not using actual chemicals);

· Get involved with creating a Tintype of your own – choose a subject, select the composition, focus and meter the exposure, and we will do the technical stuff to coat and develop your plate as you watch and learn;

· Or you can choose to have your Tintype portrait taken on a 4’x5” plate (size upgrades available);

· Take home your very own Tintype.

· We will provide aprons but please wear close-toed shoes but bring something interesting if you want your portrait taken!

PLEASE NOTE: We are working with volatile and somewhat dangerous chemicals. We have a very safe darkroom with excellent fume extraction. We will provide you with a lab grade apron and gloves. Please bring a mask if you want extra protection from any fumes. We will provide a safety induction at the start of your session. If you have any concerns please get in touch.

The Tintype Traveller is available for events! People love seeing a working darkroom at events, and the level of interaction can range from simple historical displays and demonstrations to live photo-shoots using our large-format cameras. Whilst the caravan can only host a small number of people inside the darkroom to watch the process, we can also livestream what is happening in the darkroom to monitors or displays at the event. There are so many ways that we can be involved to bring some historical or hand-made charm to events, or to add a unique attraction or indeed a photographic service straight out of the 1850's.
